Alex Newton
Deputy Director - Strategy and Development
Alex joined More in Common from the RSA (Royal Society for Arts, Manufactures and Commerce), where he was Head of Fellowship. He brings over a decade of management experience in the charity and campaigning sectors, including as Director of Engagement at Voice 21, a national oracy charity, where he led the public affairs, communications and school engagement functions. Alex is also a trained mediator, and worked for three years at the UK government’s dispute resolution service (ACAS) as a Senior Adviser and Collective Conciliator mediating employment disputes between employers, trade unions and individuals. He has extensive experience in bringing together diverse stakeholders, helping clients to navigate thorny issues and coordinating political campaigns. This is underpinned by in-depth expertise in facilitation techniques, employment relations and diversity, equity and inclusion issues. Alex has a masters in Public Policy and an undergraduate degree in History. Outside of work, he is a listening volunteer for the Samaritans and a trustee of the education charity Write Back. He is an avid reader, a mediocre but passionate cook and enjoys having his hopes dashed each year as an Arsenal supporter.
